Steven Bigwood

·About me·

Steven Bigwood is an aspiring designer and student. He started with small dreams in photoshop in his teen years but quickly fell in love and now can't help but to breathe and live it. Being his top form of entertainment and self achievement it's rare to find him doing something else while a computer is present.

Ever pressing and charging ahead he strives to become a well recognized and known designer in the future. Settling for nothing short of perfection he treats every piece as the next showcase to his portfolio and beckons new challenges for the sake of improvement. No task is considered out of reach and no challenge is too hard with the kind of desire that burns with in him.

·Education and Experiences·

Starting young with his attitude, steven dabbled with web design through out high school as well as other revenues. Realizing that he had a lot to learn he began pursuing higher education with Arapahoe Community College, he is with in 18 credits of graduation.

As an effect of learning along the way outside of school he has taken on several small jobs for different companies and groups. Designing several logos and becoming the web designer of a non-profit organization based locally out of Colorado. Always hunting for new tasks his experiences are ever growing.

·The Personal Touch·

If you are interested in having graphic design work done please don't hesitate to contact me! As stated above I am always looking for new work and challenges and am open to any kind of project. That being said, a large part of what a lot of my previous clients have enjoyed is the personal touch and relationship we have developed with each other. Most of them have had previous web sites or work done that they just needed touched up and in most cases redesigned with favorable outcomes. While I do not have a testimonial page, I believe that their satisfactions comes to light with the referrals they hand over to me. All of my work comes with a year of support and updates based on me standing behind my work. I never give up until the client is one hundred and ten percent satisfied.

·Understanding Design·

One of my larger pet peeves these days in observing allegedly professional graphic design work is the lack of respect for basic principals of design. It should be top priority for any graphic designer to consider the basic fundamentals of design in any project. These simple things being; Contrast, repetition alignment, and proximity. Ultimately though I think designers should be considering a few other things at all times. Specifically depth, flow, and trends. Sparing us the obvious (hopefully) definitions of contrast, repetition, alignment, and proximity I'd like to clarify on the latter three.

·Depth·

Depth can be one of the most difficult things to show in a design while remaining the most simple. Best defined as the measure downward from a surface. What this means to graphic designers is how can they add perspective to their art? To cite this own page as an example depth is simply created in overlaying shapes over one another, then using a descending size for the navigation arrow to appear as if they're both being pushed into perspective while still remaining legible. Things like gradients, shadows, and sizing can all assist well in this.

·Flow·

Flow in my important can be one of the most important fundamentals to the appeal of any image. Flow is best defined as the direction in which the image moves. By movement in a stationary image we have to consider the rate in which your eyes move, for example when following an arrow your eyes tend to go from the back to the point. With proper flow, the eyes aren't strained by observing an image and the visual bliss of your work can be enjoyed at it's fullest!

·Trends·

Trends are ever important in an industry that is often tasked with making a business cutting edge. Observing current and past trends should be a huge part of any designers life. With out that cutting edge and recognition of your peers you will only be left behind. That being said, having an in depth knowledge of these trends will also help increase your range and gauge of different styles. While you may make your name on one style, I find it's always important to be well versed in as many styles as possible to achieve the best possible outcome.
